Also a medium security machine, the AutoCab is really an automated honor cabinet. Fully transparent, with multiple shelves, the AutoCab can store almost anything that will fit on its shelves or in its slide out drawers. The employee gains access through a proximity card, swipe card or pin code. The AutoCab has 6 zones, each of which is controlled by a door so a given employee could be allowed to access any or all of the zones. When the door opens, the employee has unlimited access to everything in that zone. Employees are asked to push buttons on each shelf or drawer to indicate how many of each item they have taken, so inventory can be kept accurate. If they don’t push the buttons, the inventory will be inaccurate. If they do, everything will be perfect. Obviously, this can only work in an environment where there is high trust and in which the employees want to do the right thing and have a vested interest in accurate inventory.
